The author Alastair McIntosh is one of Scotland’s leading figures in land reform. Raised in the Hebridean island of Lewis, he was a leader of the movement that brought the Isle of Eigg into community ownership. Where he lives now in the Govan shipbuilding area of Glasgow, he is a founding trustee of the GalGael Trust that reconnects urban people with nature, one another and themselves.
His talk will explore the connections between people and place, and how these can deepen our identity and belonging in community with one another. Alastair sees the crises of humankind – war, poverty, alienation, climate change and the whole shebang as having origins that go deeper than the science, politics and economics alone. They are fundamentally cultural and spiritual, and the recovery of our deeper humanity is a spiritual journey that starts with digging where we stand.
